Project Name          Boat Ownership & Storage Study
Prepared For           NSW Maritime
Job Date                  August 2008

Project Details

Hill PDA undertook a study of boat storage and ownership across NSW. The study was commissioned by NSW Maritime and reviewed existing and predicted boat storage patterns and demand.

The study relates to recreational and commercial charter vessels over 5m in length either stored on water (i.e. swing moorings or marina berths) or on land (i.e. dry stack storage).

Hill PDA undertook extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders and the boating community across NSW. Based on consultation responses, research, and data modeling, the study forecasted demand for storage up to 2031 and will support NSW Maritime in the preparation of a ‘Users Guide for Boat Storage'. The outcomes of this study will be NSW wide but region specific.

The project has attracted considerable interest from state government departments, as well as local government planners and economic development officers. The interest is a result of the important interaction between boating activities, local populations and economic growth.
