Hill PDA investigated the ways and means of encouraging the retention of boarding and lodging houses and the expansion of this sector as an affordable housing option.

As part of the project Hill PDA collated a register of boarding accommodation facilities within NSW. Creating the Register provided a particular challenge as prior to this study there has not been a comprehensive register of boarding accommodation within NSW compiled by any one organisation. Consequently a wide range of potential information sources were identified (i.e. local councils, accommodation websites, State Government Departments, community organisations etc) to inform the creation of the Register. Hill PDA's role was to co-ordinate these sources and compile the information within one data base.
